Alta Info
Alta Ski Area and Real Estate
Alta Ski Area, One of the Last Skier-Only Resorts in the U.S.
At the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon deep in the Wasatch Mountains, Alta ski resort is located just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Alta receives an annual snowfall average of 500+ inches of the greatest snow on earth, and 850 inches and counting in the record-breaking 2022-2023 season. This independently owned ski area has people coming from all over the globe for its powder days.
While ski culture often uses the words ski resort and ski area interchangeably, Alta has been proud to be a ski area since 1938. It’s not all groomers- there is an entire backcountry to explore, and a rugged spirit that comes along with it.
Alta's community each winter exemplifies this rugged spirit as they prepare for Interlodge orders- they are ready to shelter in place until a storm has passed and avalanche mitigation is complete. A typical Interlodge might last from 6 AM - 8 AM, however there have been Interlodges that lasted days. Those who come here are staying for the skiing, and if you get to experience the kind of skiing that only the lucky ones do, all the better — like the rare event known locally as a Country Club day, where the ski area is open but Highway 210 is still closed. Locals have the whole mountain to themselves for a day of epic powder skiing.
Lifts & Lodging
Mountain access is made easy with six chairlifts, four tow ropes, and snow-making machines. 118 runs, steep lines, and incredible scenery make this mountain a skier's dream.
Experience their collection of unique lodging options, including independently owned chalets & lodges, many of which are ski in/ski out with dining, shopping and spas.
Partnership With Snowbird
In 2002, a partnership was formed with nearby Snowbird Ski Resort to offer patrons joint passes, allowing access to both resorts.
Four gates to Snowbird allow you to access Snowbird’s 2,500 skiable acres.
